![]() IIDA Couture 2010February marked the month for high style fashion in downtown Phoenix this year. Stepping into the hottest fashion show in town, one will not find the expected fashion designers, but instead, interior designers, creating the new trends for 2010. IIDA’s Couture 2010 was a huge success once again, and the designers from HDC just had to be part of the fun. Couture is an annual event for area design firms to partner up with local and national companies supplying the interior design industry. HDC was randomly selected to pair up with TransAct Commercial Furnishings, a match made in haute couture heaven, as the duo won the award for “Best Haute Couture." Using unconventional, raw materials, the design team from HDC fashioned couture evening wear embodying the artisan made color trends of the year. Model Jodi Blaker wore elements representing pottery, baskets, and ornamentation blended with the designated orange hue called Penasco. The designers created top of the dress with HumanScale ergonomic chair fabric, creating a spiky neckline. Wrapping around her waist with an asymmetrical twist, mocha cherry veneer acts as the corset, and is adorned with sleek metal hardware. The fluttering, woven skirt, crafted of orange systems panel fabric, makes soft ripples and waves, emulating ancient baskets. As a winning design team, with the “Best Haute Couture" ensemble, HDC designers were invited to Neiman Marcus a few weeks following the show, for another evening of fashion. Word spread that the selected winners had crafted runway worthy trends, so the department store jumped on the chance to display the outfits. Complete with cocktails and appetizers, guests at the event were given one more chance to gaze at HDC’s captivating creation.
